DMC Cactus Week Roundup: Seven Days of Succulents

Some might have thorns, but we re complete softies for succulents, which is why we couldn t help but dedicate a whole week on Facebook to the cactus. And so, our DMC Cactus Week was born. Today, our final day of official appreciation, we thought we would do a roundup of the patterns offered so that you can stitch your way to a desert paradise.   Day 1:

Eliana's embroidered cactus adds a bright work of art to her bathroom. Eliana's embroidered cactus adds a bright work of art to her bathroom.

We kicked our week off by showing off the handiwork of DMC s own graphic designer extraordinaire, Eliana. She was inspired by artwork she found online. After reworking it, she stitched it up and created a colorful focal point in her bathroom. It s a great way to bring nature into an urban dwelling.   Day 2:

The Globe Cactus from our Designer Collection of free patterns was front and center on Day 2. According to Science Kids, there are between 1,500 and 1,800 different species of cacti. This very detailed pattern is a dynamic salute to this incredible plant.   Day 3:

Many of us are aware that cacti can hold water in their stems, but did you know that the water in there isn't the clear, thin liquid we all know and drink? It s *actually a thicker liquid but worry not! It can still come to the rescue if you're lost and thirsty in the middle of the desert (but hopefully none of us ever find ourselves in that situation...) Interesting, right? Oh, and we couldn't help but show off this Flowering Cactus pattern. *Information from Science Kids.   Day 4:

Sarah K. Benning's beautiful cactus design. Sarah K. Benning's beautiful cactus design.

For Day 4 we decided to showcase the work of an embroidery artist we can t help but follow, and that s Sarah K Benning. She happened to have an instagram photo of a cactus that was simply stunning: Twelve different colored DMC threads were used to create this still life. The shading makes this embroidery look almost painted.   Day 5:

Instagram's @v.martinp pert cactus. Instagram's @v.martinp pert cactus.

Instagram s @v.martinp pert cactus is a verdant beauty. It s the perfect addition for Day 5 of our Cactus Crawl.   Day 6:

We close out our DMC Cactus Week with another pattern from our DMC Designer Collection. What better way to end than with our Desert Cacti pattern? Oh, and another fact: *like many other plants and wildlife, the cacti are threatened and need to be protected. Did you know it was illegal to remove or bother a cactus plant on public land? *Information from Science Kids.   Help protect this varied and incredible plant species so we can continue to enjoy its natural beauty!
